An example of files you may want to add to your phone are mp3 music files. An additional benefit to syncing your phone to your computer is that it will allow your phone to update when necessary.

Getting Started

To connect your phone to computer, you must have your power cord. This should have been given to you when you purchased your phone. Depending on your power cord, it may look different from the image below. To start, remove the bigger end from the plug. On the end of the cord should be a USB connection. This larger end should be attached to your computer’s USB port located on the side of your computer. The smaller end should be connected to your phone.

Syncing Your Android to Your Mac

On your Mac, use your application folder to open any program that allows you to sync your phone. For this example, we will use the HTC Sync Manager to connect to an HTC phone (Image 3). Depending on the type of phone you have, this program will vary. For example, Samsung phones will use a program called Samsung Kies and Motorola phone users will use Motorola Media Link to sync files from your phone to your computer.

After opening the syncing program, you should have access to many settings. You can check how much memory (or space) is available on your smartphone, back up your phone’s files and pictures, and more. Press sync to start this process (Image 4). Though each syncing program will look differently depending on your phone, there should be clear tabs to direct you to different types of file (music, photos, etc) information. If you cannot find the information you need, try selecting the help option within the program to search for your question.
