Livable Meck: Social Capital Engagement Café

October 18, 2017 @ 12:30 pm - 3:00 pm

Livable Meck and Foundation For The Carolinas invite you to an Engagement Café focusing on social capital. The Engagement Café will feature a panel of local experts/service providers highlighting the value of building stronger connections across diverse population groups. Guests will learn about this important cross-cutting factor and how they may contribute to ensuring all children, youth, and families have relationships in the community which enable them to thrive.

Featured Panelists

Dr. Michael Friedland is an internist practicing for the last 22 years with the Charlotte Medical Clinic, part of Carolinas Healthcare System. In response to the limited higher educational opportunities for Charlotte-Mecklenburg School students living in poverty, he founded the Friedland Foundation in 2008. This foundation provides hope of a college education to promising students attending Title I schools who face significant socioeconomic challenges.

Chris Jackson joined Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont in 2010, and currently serves as President & CEO. He brings his passion for community service to the organization and adds a unique take on social capital to the panel. Jackson has continuously been involved in strengthening our community through numerous efforts, including work with Crisis Assistance Ministry, North Carolina Outward Bound, and the Charlotte Regional Partnership Board.

Lori Krzeszewski is the Executive Director at Behailu Academy, an arts-based youth development organization that empowers teens through the arts, academic support, and community service. Krzeszewski has been working in urban schools and communities in Charlotte since 2002, using her passions to support the creative and educational experiences of individuals and communities. She believes in the power of education for personal growth and social transformation.
