Eliminate the Digital Divide Laptop Distribution

October 1, 2016 @ 8:00 am - 6:00 pm

Here’s the challenge:  Charlotte-Mecklenburg needs at least another 24,000 household solutions to be able to say that we have “eliminated the digital divide” for 100% of our students.

Here’s the good news:  E2D is distributing 500 laptop solutions to families at 5 low-income High Schools this Saturday, October 1st all day at ImaginOn Library in Uptown Charlotte.

Here’s the better news:  E2D is working shoulder-to-shoulder with volunteers from CMS, Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, Communities in Schools, Davidson College, Digital Charlotte and many other generous groups to create these opportunities on Saturday.

Here’s even better news:  There are literally tens of thousands of laptop computers that are decommissioned annually by Charlotte-Mecklenburg businesses.  We are getting in some great numbers now (thanks Lowe’s, Ally Bank, MetLife, Electrolux and others!) and with your help and support we anticipate receiving many more laptops and funds to build out our full digital access solution.

Here’s the best news:  We have the digital divide on the run!  E2D has doubled our distribution numbers annually for 3 years.  Our growth is so fast-paced that we are currently on-pace to double our all-time laptop distribution within the next 4 months!  If we can maintain this pace of growth, there is no reason why we can’t close the digital divide for 100% of CMS students by the end of 2018.

If you would like to experience the excitement of an E2D D-Day, please swing by ImaginOn this Saturday to see it yourself.  We can promise you that your heart will be touched by the sheer joy expressed by students when they get their first-ever computers.  Please come by.
